Just about bordering on odd, I see things through different eyes. The heading says it all - I live, I love, I craft, I am me...

edgelands

A couple of weeks ago, we packed the van and headed north. Our plan was to see what the weather was doing and follow the sunshine. We spent nearly a week wandering the quiet lanes and finding the solitary views. Walking on beaches where we were the only ones watching the waves crash and draw as the tide turned.

We stopped for a few hours at Wigtown Harbour which is a rather grand title for a tidal river with disused quays.  However it is a delightful spot. The oystercatchers nest on the grassy docks between lichen splattered concrete bollards. A secret whorled nest cradling four speckled brown and cream eggs. I watch the female oystercatcher watch me as I take photos.

Across from the harbour beef cows graze in knee deep breeze blown grass undulating and mimicking water. Skylarks and curlews fill the air with their song - one melodic, the other forlorn. Both beautiful.

Once we'd rested up, we returned to the road promising to return to the harbour - a edgeland space, simple, wild and obviously loved by the locals.

I will share a few precious moments from our holiday over the next few posts - promise I wont swamp you will photos and stories (of which there are many!) until next time 💙💚💙 xxxx

    1. Worth a visit - lots of history and if you go during the book week a lovely vibe, we love Palnackie too! Their 'harbour' is of a similar style ❤️

  3. Sounds lovely & although we've been up that way once, didn't go there. We did see a sign for Wigtown, but as usual our time isn't always enough. Love the little bird sitting on the post watching the cows. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more of your break. Take care & hugs.

  8. It sounds idyllic and I look forward to reading more. I was hoping to overnight at Glasson this weekend but the weather isn't good and looks like it will be a bit miserable right into next weekend too so I'll have to wait a while.

    1. We were at Glasson and despite the dire weather warnings it was wonderful! the storms flew across the sea with the clouds giving a glorious display with lightening and thunder. It was warm and breezy - I'll be posting our mini-jolly overnighter next x

    1. Yes it is! with about 14 book shops. The harbour is below the church - which is at the bottom end of the town and worth a quiet visit - lovely bird hide with glorious views :)

  11. This looks and sounds like a lovely spot. I'm looking forward to reading more about it as it's not somewhere that we've ever been. I've been a bit rubbish with commenting lately, sorry. Just had lots going on looking after elderly neighbours and having to log on to big PC to be able to comment properly. Hopefully Blogger will sort themselves out soon, though lots of others seem to be managing ok. x
