Just about bordering on odd, I see things through different eyes. The heading says it all - I live, I love, I craft, I am me...

this and that sow and sew

I've been unintentionally a little quiet over the last week or so as my laptop decided that it was time to literally come apart at the seams.
I had just messaged Eldest to ask him what version this particular laptop was (there is no insignia apart from two large initials) and as I was waiting for his reply, the screen slowly slipped backwards and fell apart....... which, considering it was a second hand, university surviving, well used machine - it had served it's time.

So, now I have a new smaller version (perfect for laps, sitting on the work-desk, going in the van) but it does mean learning to 'drive' a whole new layout.....
I do have stories to share, anecdotes to tell and photos to show however, until my new laptop and I are familiar and bond with each other - they will have to wait.
Autumn is certainly enjoying centre stage at the moment, colours have changed from summer shades to softer tones. I am trying to apreciate them - as yes, they are beautiful, but I find them melancholic .... signifying the end of the year. Ok ok so 2020 has been a year on its own however, wishing it away wont help the situation as I suspect that we will still be living with the new normal for a long time yet.

Something I am still enjoying - slow-sew. I keep adding more stitches to my jeans' leg, it is satisfying seeing folk noticing the new patterning as it forms. There are other wips being created but they are still under wraps - won't share until they have been gifted to the folk they are being made for.

Any hoo - things to do, places to be so I will stop waffling here, with apologies for a bit of a meandering directionless post, I needed to practice with my new laptop and to try and get to grips with the new blogger layout - not keen I have to say. I am unable to set the photos where I want them and it seems clunky and old-fashioned; and I keep losing the entire post and have to re-open it and start again - not good.
Have a good Tuesday xxxx

ps. those last three photos are the cats 'helping' in the greenhouse over the weekend - they took turns in keeping my jacket from 'floating off the seat' and Pepper does insist on sliding around on the top and looking through the glass whilst I was sowing seeds.

  1. Good luck with the new laptop. I'm not keen on the new blogger format either, I keep reverting to the old format each time I log on. Hoping it will continue to let me do that !

    1. Yes! I keep reverting too! in fact after I posted, I went back and edited it back in the old layout because I just could not line up the images or get the text the correct size! Here's hoping they keep the option to revisit the old format

  2. Totally annoyed with Blogger and their New Blogger interface. I am using it but there always seems to be something!. Like yourself I find it difficult to set the photos side by side ...they jitter around going where I don't want them to go! At present writing a caption has me baffled.....I write it out but the caption doesn't even appear...sigh! A rather annoying learning curve!!! At my age I don't really want to be wishing away any part of a year but I do hope in 2021 we will see a return to sanity!! Love your greenhouse gang....I suspect you will never feel lonely! keep well Amanda x

  3. I am using the new blogger with few problems..just working out what each icon means!!
I am looking forward to getting my old laptop back. It is good to have something nice and portable, but also good to have a bigger screen and a mouse instead of a touch screen

    1. I agree, the new blogger is a 'sort yourselves out' layout and not very intuitive. The new laptop I am now using is smaller than the typical size and I am rather liking it - much lighter and far more portable :)

  4. Technology is wonderful when it works but so frustrating when it doesn't. I am not fond of the new blogger format either. I keep saying that I'm too old to be learning new stuff all the time!

    1. I hear what you are saying! I wonder if blogger had gently altered one thing at a time over the course of a year whether there would have been such a backlash of grumbles ! :D

  5. I was starting to worry, but a new laptop & this confounded new blogger all at once would do my head in too. I'm not telling how old my "old" laptop is, but I did get a little new one once & it had Windows 8, which I couldn't come to terms with, so gave up & mainly use the "old" one & my trusty PC. Love your puddy pics. Take care, stay safe & huggles.

    1. Good luck with both! they can be a fiddle but once you've cracked it (I firmly believe and quick sweary session at the same time helps!)

  6. I agree with the people who don't like the new blogger. It seems mad to gear it for phones. How many people write a blog on a phone?? I keep complaining (click on the question mark top right) and asking them to leave the old version as an option.
I did write a long comment yesterday but I don't think it arrived. This is the short version!
Good luck with the new laptop. It's always surprising how disconcerting it is - a bit like moving to a new house.
    Love the cat pics.
(I replied on 'Mother's Day' itself to your comment (having replied before in the wrong place. x)

    1. I think they are trying to target a younger audience, I suspect that those who mostly use blogger are of the age where a laptop or table top computer is our first port of call. I have tried blogging by phone and it is not easy, but platforms like facebook, Instagram among others are designed to be phone friendly (and up with the 'youth')

  7. I keep reading about problems people are having with the new blogger, I am really sorry to hear this keeps happening. I have not had any apart from a few niggles trying to work out how to do the things that I have always done which isn't always easy it is! I hope you can find a way to make it work for you whilst navigating a new laptop at the same time!

  8. What lovely photographs especially the view of Pepper on the glass roof. Glad about new laptop as your pooter had definitely given you good service. Have fun with it. I'm going to stick to the old blogger format as long as I can. Don't know why they have changed it. New is not always better.

    1. Unfortunately I have seen today that the link to the 'legacy blogger' has now been removed, we are all in this together hahaha (not!) and no option to return to the old style format :(

  9. Love the picture of Pepper on the roof! I am trying to come to terms with the new blogger interface and today I found that the method I was using to change the size of an image has changed.... why? I found how to to change it but... grrrrr. We must keep fighting the good fight!
