Snapshots from the weekend - a brief visit to the coast.
Moss, who is back to her normal (almost) bouncy self 'wearing' a mudpack set of black boots... she smelt 'delightful'!
Bluebells nodding in the brisk breeze on Saturday afternoon - their fragrance whipped away before I could smell it, will have to wait for a less windy day...
St Helen's Church, Overton - one of the oldest churches in Lancashire thought to originate around 1050 - 1140, depending on which wall you look at with evidence of both Norman and Saxon architecture.A heron tentatively dipping a toe into the estuarine waters - it was incredibly choppy with spray breaking off each little wave.
We walked around Bazil Head (a small farmed peninsular) where the coastal defences are huge boulders piled up against the land preventing erosion during stormy weather. Someone with a sense of humour created this ....With my back to 'Stone Face' I photo-ed the view - Himself and Moss ahead of me of course.
Further round, in a marshy inlet there is a fine line where the land starts and the sea ends with the fence as the marker, although it does appear as if the sea breaches that manmade barrier on a regular basis.
All around the headland were small red place names - obviously a community who love and care for their little headland on the edge.
Then as the sun began to set, we watched four hares loping around the fields below us. We could make out two male and two female and although there was no boxing or chasing, there was definitely a platonic group happening as they grazed in the lengthening shadows.
Hope your weekend was a good one π
Moss... very trendy with her new black boots. Good job that there is no virtual smell being transported down the internet pipeline to here LOL! So glad she is better! Beautiful and fabulous views Kate and wishing I could step out and enjoy those landscapes too. Fascinating signs which makes me wonder and curious about the origin of each. Butler's bench for example :-) Wonderful sunsets! Keep well. Amanda x
ReplyDeleteI was interested to know where the names originated too - some are obvious as they are linked to the river or the view, but the Butler's Bench? that is the one I would like to know!
DeleteLove Moss's black wellies. Good to see she is back to normal - well almost. How lovely to see the place names, nice to see a community that has pride their area. We saw our first rabbits in the field yesterday, they too were just grazing. Love your going, going, gone pictures of the sun. Sounds like a brief but good jolly out. 𧑠𦴠xx
ReplyDeleteIt was brief but very enjoyable, Moss (and us to be honest) gets so much pleasure from this almost spontaneous brief breaksππΎ
DeleteFrom tall those beautiful photos , it looks a lovely weekend was had by all. Thanks Kate for this lovely post & that hare is gorgeous, as is Moss with muddy wellie look alikes. Take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely break - so much happens while we are there, gentle stories, lovely views and glorious sunsets - I want to go back already!
DeleteGood to see Miss so spry again. You had a lovely day and thanks for sharing the pictures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam - yes it is good she is back to her rather bouncy self, although we are still keeping her a little quieter as she still stiffens up after a long walk or enthusiastic play :)
DeleteBeautiful images from a beautiful weekend. π₯°
ReplyDeleteThank you Jayne, it was a lovely weekend - now just need to have another one just like it and soon!
DeleteI love Moss's boots! Some gorgeous photos to drool over especially those wonderful sunsets. Jon's had a cold all weekend so I've been keeping my distance! xxx
ReplyDeleteOh dear poor Lord Jon - hopefully he is on the mend now, and those sunsets break my heart every time with their beauty.π π
DeleteAnother great post. Fab photos and Moss doing Mossy things, my favourite. Beloved has seen a hare recently up at the fields and I've caught a glimpse of some when we've been driving about. The heron dipping its toe made me laugh. Thanks. x
ReplyDeleteThank you lovely lady :) I chuckled when I watched the heron do the toe dip - it really looked like it was just too cold to step in properly haha
DeleteThat's an area I haven't explored yet but hopefully will do soon. It sounds like you had a good weekend and I love Moss's 'boots' - they remind me of the black shiny knee length ones which were all the rage in my late teens and early twenties :)
ReplyDeleteI certainly recommend it - it is a gentle area with quiet lanes and lots of space to walk dogs. There is not vast amounts to see so it is a good one to do when you do Sunderland Point. I had long knee length black boots then too! I'd forgotten them - oh what a blast from the past haha!
DeleteMoss? Are they thigh high boots you are wearing...you tart!! xx
ReplyDeleteChuckle!
DeleteI'm so glad Moss is back to jumping in puddles once again, and I love the 'muddy boots.'
ReplyDeleteA lovely weekend. Here's to many more. X
I agree - here is to many more :) x
DeleteSo glad that Moss is feeling better. Please pass on gentle scritches.
ReplyDeleteThank you, and I will x
DeleteI never tire of seeing Moss' muddy paws ;) What a fine church, Mr Heron and rock face. Your lovely hare pictures are very Watership Down! xXx
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovelyy rabbit or hare? Much different than ours. The rock smile makes me think I need to spread some fun out there. π
