Shadows

When I wrote my previous post - I felt a little numb - it felt rather frivolous wittering on what was occurring in my day when there is dreadful aggressive self-aggrandisement by a dangerous man against normal everyday folk who are suffering at his immoral hand.
On Saturday, whilst at work, I was invited to walk around a local nature reserve which we are affiliated to, and as I felt my head was full and needed clearing, I accepted. Due to time constraints we yomped at a very quick pace, up and around and back in just under an hour and a half - nearly five miles later the fog in my head although still there seemed less oppressive.
On Sunday once we'd completed a few home chores Himself laid out a local walk we could do after lunch.
He knows that I love this particular route, one that includes a short drover's track that we affectionately call 'Hare Lane'. It is not guaranteed to spot hares however we have seen them there often enough for the track to be awarded such a name. As we walked through 'Long Lamb Field' we decided that we would like to see not only hares but lapwing and curlew.
Despite the chilly breeze, the gentle spring sunshine was so warming, so hopeful. We traversed up and over our boggy hill ridge into the next valley surrounded by the plaintive trill of first a single curlew then a couple and finally small drifts of birds. They flew on large curved wings following the line of moorland grasses, landing and whistling then setting off again.
We stopped and gazed at the valley view and I noticed our shadow, us two and a dilly dog.  It confirmed to me that we are so lucky - we are not anything special or amazing, but we are who we are and we do what we can do - we have donated, we certainly care and am sending positive love and light to those who need, thank you Vix and thank you ALL who commented and confirmed that you too feel the same and do care. I thought of you all, thought of Ukraine as we listened to the melodic trilling of lapwing, freshly returned from their coastal overwintering.
It made me realise that life does go on, the weather has improved, summer birds are returning and spring bulbs are hosting hungry bees.
We turned for home, the air was cooling despite the sunlight. Moss had thrown herself into every mud puddle she could and was sporting a thick layer of dark mud and a silly grin on her face.
Again a walk helped release the fog in my head, it is still there but a lot more orderly. Thank you again for your comments - they certainly helped too - here is to hope and positive mindset and love xx

And yes - we saw a hare. A large male who bolted from beneath an ancient hawthorn - then stopped. He sat up, ears tall and watched us for a moment as we stood still and held our breath. Then in a blink of an eye - he vanished into the moorland grasses.

Space to breathe💙

My days are full, as are my weeks and by the time I sit down in the evenings all good intention just melts into the settee as I feel myself relax and more often than not - nod off.

The weather has been good too so we have spent nearly every waking hour when we are not working either out walking or camping or in the garden - days flash by then almost a month goes by when I realise that I've not dropped into my blog and I've hardly checked others. *note to self - find time.

So, thought I would dip the toe in the proverbial waters of blogging and say hi - I've not disappeared, I've just stepped sideways.

May was beautiful - we managed a lot of walking, in beautiful places and we even slipped in a bit of camping or rather 'vanning'. There is something healing waking up and watching the tide go out.

I must have needed the break - I fell asleep one afternoon in the van, leaving Himself quietly watching the world go by. I've never done that before.

There is something cleansing, something cathartic about being near the coast. It has been a very very long time since I have been anywhere near the edgelands - I have missed them.

June was filled with heart breakingly wonderful days too - more to follow - soon, I promise 💙

you can also find me HERE where I waffle several times a week x

Gifts

January 8th Scavenger Photo Hunt - Gift/s

I had planned on sharing things I had crafted as gifts however sadly one of the recipients still hasn't received her pressies due to the previous tier 4 conditions and now the latest lockdown we are dealing with. I don't want to spoil the surprise, so her gifts are all stashed safely together ready and waiting for when we can all get together again.

So, I thought I would share a 'stocking present' to Himself and I from Eldest and his lovely partner. Each one of us received a carefully chosen woodland creature, however they were 'naked' so every little animal was lovingly given a wardrobe of warm tweeds and woollen scarves.

They were the first thing we opened on chrimbly morning and I found it hard to put mine down (which in case you had not already guessed is the Hare!) I kept stroking her lovely felted ears and admiring her fringed kilt and warm shawl.
The rather dapper Mr Badger is Himself's and he loved him immediately. Mrs Hare and Mr Badger are tree decorations however, when the tree was packed away, these two remained out and will do so from now on.
They linked their arms and explored their new surroundings, taking in the air and checking out the hyacinth bulbs then wandered along the small aloes and cacti on the window ledge.
They even checked out a few houses, I suspect they will move around a bit until they find the spot they like the most 🥰 - as you can tell, I am still besotted by them!
2020's chrimbly day was a very different one, it will have been for most folk, Mrs Hare and Mr Badger brought such a lovely moment of joy and will continue to do so through 2021.

Right, that was a minute of light-hearted waffling, I am off to see what the others have shared - until next time - stay safe xx

September's words and pictures

 Seasonal

A huge bunch of large haws - perfect for hurling at the husband when he least expects it ..... mhwahahaha.

Favourite seat/place to sit

This, when I typed out the prompt at the beginning of the month, was not what I had in mind .... however, briefly on Thursday afternoon there was a small flash of sunshine. Bathing my sidekick in the most wonderfully warm light.

In the attic, where I am at the moment, there is a 2CV back seat which is used as a 'settee' when I get visitors while I am sewing. However, the most frequent user of this rather comfortable seat ..... is Moss.... so her favourite comfort-blankie (thank you Daisy) is draped for added snuggle.

Comforting/cosy

A few years ago a dear friend gifted to me her salt lamp. It has cheerfully given out it's happy and holistic vibes ever since. In the time it has been mine, both boy's girlfriends have fallen under the spell of the pink glow and now are owners of their own. They are a comforting warming light - perfect for dark evenings and dank days.

Delight/ed/ful

I know I have shared this story with you before - I was so captivated by this brief moment of magic that it remains with me and makes me smile.

Micro/mini/teeny tiny

Some time over the summer we spent a wild weekend away in the van, we stopped at the coast for Moss and I, me to fill my eyes and my soul with the coastal light and Moss to swim and play. As we sat on the stones to dip out of the breeze, Himself noticed the tiniest of feathers on a piece of drift wood.

My own choice

Umm. An image is better than a thousand words..............

Hope you've enjoyed my offering for September, now I am off to check out the other photo-hunters posts - have a good weekend xxxxx

One of those moments

Today Himself and I wistfully acknowledged the swifts have gone.

We'd seperately been keeping a half cocked ear for them for the last few days and today, we reluctantly agreed... yes, they have left.

The swallows are still about, flitting around, getting their maps and travel plans ready and it wont be long before they all start congregating on 'phone lines and organising their day of departure.

I miss the screaming parties of swifts as they cut through the sky above our heads at phenomenal speeds.  These birds are, to me the spirit of summer. When they go, summer goes too.

Another animal that has a hold over me is the wild brown hare. Secretive and wary, it is a magical moment when you come across, however fleeting, a hare quietly getting on with it's own life.

Last week, during a rather long and very warm walk, (over ten miles in the end) we came across this special moment.
To be honest, I was tired, very footsore, limping slightly as my knee although as good as it will ever be, gets tired too. Our conversation had dried up as had our water and tea in the flask, it was now just the final push to get home.
And, as we trudged our way up a dusty farm track, I was halted by this site - we stopped immediately, hissed at Moss to lie down and ..... apart from my camera coming up slowly, we stood stock still.

I could barely breath, especially as the hare after what felt like an age of not moving, quietly began to lope towards us. Unhurried, unworried and unaware.

Then, after the hare had come delightfully close, it must have spotted us, and calmly sprang up on to the banking into the field and vanished.
Wow.

We stood for a moment, stunned by this precious moment. Then continued with our walk, only this time we had a bit more oomph in our step and our conversation has returned and was filled with what we had just seen.

Now, as I type this, sitting at home, I can still feel the heat of that day, taste the dust and smell the ripening grain crops in the fields and the hot pine tree resin scents that surrounded us.

Magic!

blogging - when in reality ....

........what I should be doing is needle felting!

Edited to add - gosh you are a sharp eyed lot! I shall put back the word that had been there but I remember deleting coz I miss counted! Cant get away with AnYtHinG with you around (thank you xxxx)

I thought I would pop in and catch up with the Scavenger photo hunters - thank you everyone, again there has been such a lovely selection of photos and stories - I look forward to reading them each month :D

Here, for your delectation and delight (and groans of despair!) are November's words...

We will show and share our stories and pictures
Friday 30th November

This will be the last one for 2018 - December always gets a little busy!
We will start again in the new year x

Enjoy!

And if you are new, tempted or have forgotten - the gentle rules of our game are:

A photograph inspired by a word, words inspired by the photo.
It can be a freshly captured image or one from the archives - all you need to do is waffle a few words to accompany it.
Try to think out of the box - not always easy and not compulsory - but adds a little zing to the ol' grey matter :D

The needle felting I should be doing?

A Hare checks his back foot whilst hare waiting for ears and front legs......  (blurred to keep his identity a secret - he has been commissioned for a gift)

til next time - with love xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sun between the showers

Bathed in a welcome ray of sunlight after a few days of (necessary) rain and (dull) cloud - I have just finished another mini book.

I can not explain or believe the pleasure it gives me creating these little creatures. Each one I have completed has found a home rather quickly so they must be sharing that happiness too.

March's Madness - words and photos

Hole

I am a magpie, a collector of 'things' and of 'stuff' and 'magic' and of 'junk'
All of it treasure.
This knotty swirl of pine was found in a local stream and carefully brought home.
The pebble is from a windswept Scottish island beach
they were made for each other.

Making

Reading Now

The Weir by Conor McPherson - it made my heart surge with sadness
and 60 north -  which makes my heart skip a happy beat when it arrives through the letterbox :)

Black and white

Although not truly black and white - the shot of yellow gives it away.
It had been a most beautifully harsh and cruel week for the birds.
They trudged and hopped through deep snow as they looked for food and water.
This blackbird was waiting his turn at the water trough,
as the snow kept falling.

Starts with an ... H

I'd mused over this one, not sure what would fill this space,
until I caught myself staring at my latest felted hare ...
next to my 'HOME' wooden blocks.
With a small pink Heart on an ear ...

My own choice

This photo was almost going to be the 'Black and White' choice
however, I felt I would lose Moss' intense stare if I changed her from colour into B&W,
so here, for your pleasure -
Moss doing her best to fill the brief and making me laugh at the same time!

And if you wondered why she has a harlequin face... well,
she was charging after her ball with such intense concentration
that she failed to notice a huge muddy puddle.
SPLAT!

So, these are my words and photos for March :) Hope you enjoyed them, I am off now to see what you lovely lot have got up to xx
