I am supposed to be working today but the weather outside and the weather on my laptop (and my cell and the TV - yes I checked them all) all say it is going to be .....
Any hoo ... in fact the sky outside is a most evil yellow grey mush - my camera can't pick up the true depth of grot but it is definitely rather menacing. The interesting thing is though - it is not so much the weather being the issue but this morning's first garden ..... which has to be done no.matter.what... Most folk are really understanding and if I postpone coz of the weather - so be it, however...... I best get my waterproofs out (all of them....) for my first garden (the owner is a lovely lady - but her garden is very very important to her and it has to be 'just right').What I was going to waffle on about was something a little more domesticated (no - that sounds like I have been house trained to behave .... try again) what I was going to waffle on about was a bit of an essential repair job.
While we were on house moving duties, I caught the back of my puffa jacket on the corner of something sharp and ripped the fabric. Now, this jacket is a working one and has suffered rips and snags before and has been repaired. Not I might add in the usual way but in one inspired by boro boro mending.Using a rather eclectic mix of Japanese influenced stitchery, patchwork and good dose of old fashioned 'I-don't-really-follow-rules-and-just-make-it-up-as-I-go-along' method, I appliqued a flowery shape over the tear, then ran a double thread back and forth to strengthen the fabric below while securing the patch. I love the unevenness and random bumpy feel of the stitches on the cloth.
While I was stitching a certain cat was making the most of having the other settee to herself and was snoozing happily in the glow of the woodburner - I knew she was warm coz she'd flopped over and exposed her feet and her little 'toe-beans' looked rather pink.
So, how is October so far for you?
Were you one of those floored by the lack of FB, Whatsapp and Insta?
Did you even notice is was off or was it a blessing?
And ... the million dollar question .... will I be working later!?!? (answers will be added laterπ☔)

**Edited to add: Morning garden was a washout and fortunately the owner cancelled without a quibble, although obviously a washout of a day, just waiting for confirmation of cancellation of afternoon -
I love the repair to your jacket, what a good idea and so neat. Your cat looks very comfy there. Facebook down, nope didn't even notice as I'm only a member of one private dog training group and it's the end of term :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Eileen, I hate the thought of throwing away a perfectly (well almost perfect) piece of clothing for the sake of a tear and it might as well be proud of it's working life π and all the repairs and patches are testament to thatπ
DeleteI am thinking Kathy I may turn off again occasionally! Have I the strength to be disconnected from all these essential links to family, groups and blogs. I rather think I do as I felt quite relieved that FB,Whatsapp and Insta were down yesterday. I can't explain that relief, not at present anyhow! I think your patch is brilliant and I am going to copy, that is if you don't mind :-) That sky does look a bit muggy so as it is midday here now I am wondering if you have been gardening in the rain or had to give up. Keep well Amanda x
ReplyDeleteCopy away! Spread the joy of visible mending π and it is still bucketing it down, morning garden was a washout and cancelled, afternoon .... still waiting for confirmation of soggy status (which is pretty high)
DeleteI love your repair too. In Wales we have been lucky with the weather and had sunshine all day, so we’ve been out and about. It ended up a bit stressful though with car problems, which are always worse when a long way from home. We now have to spend tomorrow, the last day of our holiday, making a 100 mile trip to a dealer to hopefully get it fixed. Oh well … I’m sure ‘Our Yorkshire Farm’ later will cheer us up π
ReplyDeleteOh that is rubbish! horrible when the car plays up and you are so far from home - hope it all goes ok tomorrow π€πΌ
DeleteBeautiful repair work. I’ve seen similar before and I must do something on a pair of trousers that I somehow got bleach on. Time I got the material and threads out. Loving your cat :) B x
ReplyDeleteThank you :) Oh I've stitched over bleach on jeans too - it's quite freeing because you are guided by the shape on the fabric - good luck
DeleteI enjoy social media, but quite often leave it alone when it becomes anti social media. Was perfectly happy without it last night. Arilx
ReplyDeleteI agree re when it becomes anti social media, it can, if used wisely, can be a very useful tool, but equally it can be so misleading or unkind. A break from it is good, definitely!
DeleteNice repair!
ReplyDeleteI did need to message somebody... but I emailed them instead and listed stuff on fleabay.
How can someone make such a basic mistake as to put everything on the same small platform?! High time that messenger Insta and WhatsApp went back to being separate entities. MK may have lost 6 billion dollars in his "worth" due to shares going down over 4%...but that is small change in his 123 billion dollar fortune.
thanks!
DeleteYes we email 'chatted' with the boys - and to be honest if anything was urgent - we'd have rung them.
4% - small change indeed π
Nice bit of repair work there missus. I’ve always said I’m coming back as a cat. One with a good home and space to roam outside and get upto a bit of mischief. I think your house would do nicely heehee
ReplyDeleteLynn x
You would be most welcome should you wish to regenerate as a cat!
DeleteCute repair job! Even cuter toe-beans :)
ReplyDeleteThank you on both accounts π xx
DeleteI love your repair :)
