I've been playing .....
The instructions it came with were a rather lost in translation, so I did a bit of online research and after realising where I'd gone wrong with setting up, I stuck the kettle on and got stuck in!
And I like!!
I like A LOT!
I loved the movement of each row as it builds up and the gentle growth of fabric from woollen thread. It is definitely a slow craft - a mindful, methodical and rhythmic craft and while the weather outside was foul tempered and miserable, I was engrossed and wanting to learn more.
My chosen colours, all in pre-shrunk 100% wool, are a lovely tweedy grey, chocolate brown and a soft sandy shade. However each mug mat has a different pattern. The edges might be bumpy and my tension still needing practice however seeing the completed mug mats made my heart sing. I may have mentioned that I am enjoying this ... A LOT!
Right - this is the final #moreblogvember post for November 2021. There is this myth that it take 21 days to form a habit (where in reality it is nearer 66 days - so two months of blogging just might be enough) we shall see.

Those look lovely and I'm so glad you enjoy your new skill. I have a little loom in the attic which was my friend Annie's. The sort you can weave belts on. One of these days . . .

DeleteThey are cute! I remember having a go at weaving many years ago and I enjoyed it. I might be found having an 'accident' myself very soon :)
ReplyDeleteI was surprised how much pleasure I got from weaving having never tried it before - ever - which is strange for me coz I dabble in so much that you'd think I would have by now, have fun when you do 'accidently' purchase yourself a kit!! hahah
DeleteThey are sweet. I remember doing weaving at school a couple of times. I really enjoyed it and made a blue and white bag which sadly I no longer have. Also aged 7 I wove on cardboard to make a pot holder.

DeleteI remember having a similar kit myself when I was a child, a simple affair which came with a few very small balls of wool to get started. I enjoyed it for a while but then got fed up of it as I'm not really a 'crafty' person and it was too time consuming. Your little mats look cute though and it's nice that your enjoying making them :)

Lovely & I remember doing a wee bit at school & then again in the early 80s when I went to a craft group in a very small country town where it only ran out of canning season as we nearly all worked at the cannery or orchard packing houses. I remember I quite enjoyed so maybe on my Xmas list(just joking as I don't have one). Love your colours, enjoy, take care & hugs.

DeleteI stumbled across you from Crafty in the Med. I bought a rigid heddle loom in June and have since "accidently" bought a larger one and two inkle looms. Try a rigid heddle. They aren't as expensive as a full blown floor loom and are such fun. Crafts soothe the soul and calm the mind. And are cheaper than a psychiatrist.
