Ruminating

The last few days, well weeks really, have just merged into each other - not sure where one ends and the next begins. Thank goodness I take photos on my cellphone otherwise there are some days I can't even remember!

I worked the Saturday - I do remember that as because as much as I like my job - it absolutely riles me working alternate weekends. Fortunately this one coincided with the bank holiday so I did have two days off with Himself but most of it was spent just recovering from the previous week.
Time at home was filled with gentle and simple joys - like having Pan choose to sit next to me whilst I was working on the laptop. As she gets older, she is becoming less crotchety and feral, so to be able to stroke a relaxed cat and be rewarded with a rusty chirrup and whispy purr - is wonderful.
I picked the first bunch of flowers from the garden for 2022. I have already started picking posies for sale at work and they just fly off the shelf but at home in my shady and damp garden, these woodlandly flowers - honesty, sweet cicely and lilac - in my hawthorn jug, make me smile.
I am not that fond of bulbs, finding that once they have finished and returned back to the soil, I tend to accidently dig them up when I am gardening. This year I have more bulbs that I have ever had - ever - and have planted them either in tubs and pots or beneath a perennial plant so that I (hopefully) reduce the chances of unearthing them - fingers crossed.
My weaving has sat ignored for a couple of weeks while I wait for my fingers to feel 'human' again (I knocked them against a wooden raised bed hard enough to think that I had broken them) so a few rows in the evenings felt rather cathartic -  I need to get back to doing more, I rather enjoy the escapism it brings.
Recently I stumbled across a new blog/IG account and one of the posts had a super simple (shortbread-esque) recipe for biscuits and by Monday evening I felt ready to do some baking and quickly made up a batch of pigs, rounds and oak leaf shapes. As usual Himself scoffed a fair few, leaving just enough for his lunch box today! The only evidence is this solitary photo of the dough ... they were very short, very yummy and certainly a do it again - if you want to try them yourself the recipe is here at Five in the Nest  Jane mentions that they cook quickly and they do, I peaked at them and they were still pale so decided to leave them for a moment or two longer, turned away to finish washing up and when I took them out - one or two (ok may be more like four or five) were a little darker than they should have been however they were still demolished with a mug of tea.

Now it is Tuesday, I am about to set off for work and it is threatening rain - I am not sure to be relieved or annoyed! The gardens need watering but it is not enough to be give a good soaking or for me to call off working.

Hope the rest of your week goes gently - I am aware I have another hectic one waiting for me so I am bracing myself - so I better get myself to the launch pad (via the kettle of course!)

  1. The year is slipping away too fast for me. It's early May now ..... I too rely on my photos to remind me that I did do stuff over the 'missing' 5 days! Your weaving looks good and I love the rain drops on the tulips. x

    1. To my shame I am wishing the first part away as it so so busy - I just want it to end then I can breathe !

  2. I must admit time seems to be running away with me here too. There seems to be a lot going on. I also have had major blog commenting stress going on and am sooooo pleased to find that I can comment under my blogger profile on the 'big computer' as it all seems to have gone to pot on the iPad ... the phone already being a non-starter. Is anyone else having problems?

    1. I had commented on a number of other blogs that blogger does not work with phones or tablet type devices - it was written pre-small hand held app driven devices and works best on computers and laptops - hope that helps :)

    2. Thanks Kate but this seems to be a new problem that started for me last week. There a few threads about it being to do with third party cookies but I don’t seem to be able to resolve it. I can comment, just not under my Google profile, even though I am signed in … it’s so frustrating 🙈

    3. Hi Carol - you seemed to be signed out at the moment - if I remember rightly (some time ago) this was a problem with some folk and they had to uninstall and reinstall blogger which sorted out the issue - very annoying indeed!

    4. I know it looks like I am signed out but I’m not … I can post and do everything, other than comment under my blogger profile. It is frustrating. I don’t use Blogger as an app … always through the web version. It seems to be affecting other people too as there are a few threads about it but no real solution as yet 😃

    1. I bought an inexpensive loom weaving kit to give it a try - and rather enjoyed it. I learnt a lot by looking on instagram/youtube and blogs as well as trial and error. My first attempts were just mug mats and they worked well enough to give as gifts, I've made book marks and wall hangings since and love the process of drawing in wools and yarns 😊 my advice is just do it and enjoy!

    1. I have done something 'silly' to them but they are healing and I have learned to strap them up while I am at work to protect them and I felt so honoured that Pan actually decided to sit with me - unheard of a year ago!

  6. I hope your poor fingers will be okay again before long. I like the photo of Pan, I think curled up cats look so cute, and the last tulip shot is simple but beautiful :)

  7. One contented cat......and your flowers look lovely. I did mistake them for plumbago, till you mentioned they were honesty. Silly me! Oh, your poor fingers. Hope they are mending nicely & you'll be able to enjoy crafting more. Maybe a busy week for you, but take time to breathe. Take care & hugs.

    1. Time is just slipping away! I love having a vase of 'from the garden' flowers in the house, these are the first this year and I am very happy with them :)

  9. Hope your week goes well. Would love some shortbread, but I never bake. Well I have, but it's been well over 10 years. Just not something I ever liked doing. Now the bonus of that is, we have less sweets to eat. We do sometimes buy deserts, but rarely more than one helping...it helps with pounds. The flower pictures are very pretty. My tulips in the yard are just about done, so not much color out there at the moment, but GREEN! I believe my yard is more green than Ireland at the moment. We've had so much rain, it looks like I painted the yard, lol. Enjoy your weaving just don't over do for your fingers sake.

    1. Thank you Sandy it did although I am very glad it is now over, it was a frenetic as I thought it would be - TGIF!
Our garden is a green oasis (as in only green and not much colour too!)

  10. Pan looks like the perfect laptop companion. Our old cat had a penchant for sitting on top of the laptop...and for running off with pens and pencils :0 Your weaving looks so lovely! My mam used to do a bit of weaving on looms she'd made, it did look relaxing x
